Few Symbols Used in Care Labels Along With Description

Symbols or letters always shown on labels for different washing instructions. Like a single dot in center for showing the cold temperature, two dots indicate the normal temperature and three dots indicate the use of warm water for washing the garment. Do not wash will use a crossed sign (X). This label shows drying instructions. A single dot in its center indicates tumble drying at low heat; two dots indicate normal heating temperature where as three dots indicate high temperature required for tumble drying of the material.

A crossed sign (X) suggests do not tumble dry. This label shows ironing instructions. A single dot in its center indicates ironing at low settings; two dots indicate normal settings where as three dots indicate ironing at high temperature. A crossed sign (X) suggests do not iron. This symbol shows the instructions for dry cleaning. A crossed sign (X) suggests do not dry clean. This symbol shows that bleach can be used when ever required. Diagonal lines in the center shows use of non chlorine bleach when needed and a crossed sign (X) suggests do not bleach.


Brand labels hold a logo defining company’s name. These labels are designed so well by using all creative techniques in design, color, pattern and printing because they also act as a promotional medium. As now-a-days people are becoming more or more brand conscious, this label seems to be an effective and cheap way of advertising a product to the customer. People always look for this label because this creates a positive or negative brand image in the minds of consumers. Examples are: Hang ten, Levis, Marks n Spenser, Giordano, Next, Calvin Klein etc. It shows the distinctive features of seller’s from their competitors in the market. Many times these labels are a major source of buying any product for the consumer. It helps to create and maintain consumer’s association with the company.
